ST Foundation’s partner in Congo Brazzaville are the Sisters of the Cross. This Congregation is active since several years in the region and aims to provide spiritual and temporal help to people suffering from poverty or ignorance, in any place whatsoever and in any form whatsoever. It therefore contributes to social, cultural, educational or any other activity in the service of the mission referred to above.
The DU program aims at equipping two labs, one in Vouela, in an urban neighborhood of the capital Brazzaville and one in a rural, remote area called Makoua
On the 8th of March in our DU Lab in Makoua a little event was organized in order to celebrate the women’s day together with the end and accomplishment of the ICB course. All the women received a special certificate.
Courses kicked off in the second half of 2010.
Here is a testimony by one of the trainers about the first DU sessions in Makoua:
The training has indeed begun and (…) we are almost overwhelmed with requests for registration for the second session. We are completing the program and we are already preparing the delivery of completion certificates. All students do not approach the PC in the same way, (…) the youngest adapt very quickly and are happy to learn. Even the elderly are on enlisted tough, and follow the course, they are they are even more committed. (…) The community in Makoua believe it (i.e. the DU program) is as a gift from heaven and constantly thank the Foundation. I find it hard to let them out of the room after the course, I have to ask them to leave, but all this work is exciting. Young children, who had never seen a computer before, tremble at the touch of the mouse during class...
Over 1700 trainees benefitted from free computer courses in Congo Brazzaville as of Q1 2013.
