Expanding digital literacy through the Tablet for Seniors program

This June, the Digital Unify (DU) Philippines team successfully launched another training center for the Tablet for Seniors (T4S) program through a collaborative effort with the La Mesa local government unit. The initiative targeted the participation of members of the La Mesa cooperative and the La Mesa seniors association, including their family members.

The program officially commenced with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing on June 11th. The inaugural batch of graduates celebrated their completion on June 27th after four days of enriching sessions. This initiative has been instrumental in equipping the elderly population with essential digital skills, covering topics such as tablet basics and navigation, internet connections, creating personal accounts, online video platforms, educational games, online shopping and payments, health and wellness applications, and online safety and security tips.

This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to bridging the digital divide for individuals of all ages. The DU team at ST Calamba remains steadfast in their commitment to nurture and expand this program, aiming to reach and benefit a multitude of organizations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the active ST volunteers whose support has been fundamental in making this program a success.

Testimonies from the members of the La Mesa Cooperative who completed the T4S program:

First of all, I would like to thank you for your patience in teaching us about your project “tablet for seniors.” We have learned a lot, such as bank-to-bank transactions, paying bills, and many other things. For seniors like us, there is no need to leave the house and stand in line to pay. During our several weeks of sessions, we enjoyed ourselves. Thank you very much again,” Remedios A. Novillos.

I realized that even seniors could keep up with modern technology. The voluntary project (Tablet for Seniors) by the group from STMicroelectronics was a great help. We enjoyed your patient teaching; we learned a lot. Important parts of the tablet and how to use it. How to turn it on & off, reset it, create our own email, use and download from Google/Play Store and YouTube, cash in on GCash, and most importantly, how to avoid scams. I now ask my children less frequently about how to do things,” Leoncia A Branuevo.
