25 obstacles in a muddy course of 4 or 8 km. The event on September 14 in Agrate (Milan) was not a normal race, but the Energy Run.
More than 500 participants and 100 kids challenged each other among hay bales, ditches, fords, and walls to climb. This year, the race reached its ninth edition and was once again in support of our Foundation, organized by Energy Team, a non-profit sports association formed by volunteers from ST with the contribution of several sponsors.
The proceeds from the registrations are fully donated to support the many projects of our Foundation active around the world. Samuel Murano, an employee of STMicroelectronics in Agrate Brianza, was not able to participate this year but fondly remembers his experience in 2022. We asked him a few questions:
What drives you to participate in a race like the Energy Run? It’s certainly not for everyone! I can share my experience, which I believe is shared by many. It’s not just a simple race, and I wanted to challenge myself with something new because, as written on the t-shirt, “Run Insane OR Remain The Same!” Moreover, being able to contribute to my company’s Foundation motivated me even more. I am also thinking to enroll as an ST Foundation volunteer, which I hope will happen soon.
Given the difficulty, do competitors help each other? It came naturally to help each other. I helped with a push and supported those in front of me to overcome the large hay obstacle that was challenging them. When I slipped badly and fell headfirst into the mud, I was helped up by a girl next to me. We laughed about it and resumed the race.
Benedetta (first on the left, in the picture) has been participating in the Energy Run for several editions and was present this year as well. Benedetta, what motivated you to participate in this event? I started in 2021, a few months after I began working at ST. I joined this initiative because I found it to be a fun way to do team building and spend time with new colleagues outside the office. Over the years, it has become a “ritual” that I can’t miss. Additionally, it’s for a good cause because it supports the ST Foundation, so the benefit is twofold.
Is there something you would like to say to your colleagues who did not participate this year? I look forward to seeing you next year!! Fun is guaranteed
