We are excited to announce a new partnership with Don Bosco Fambul in Sierra Leone aimed at enhancing digital literacy and skills among the youth. The initiative will begin with a pilot phase in Freetown. Don Bosco is in the process of selecting five Digital Unify (DU) Labs from our active locations in Freetown for this pilot phase. As the project progresses, we plan to scale up the initiative to reach more areas. It is important to highlight that all DU Labs in Sierra Leone, as well as those in other parts of the world, are established and equipped with refurbished computers provided by STMicroelectronics, our founding corporation and primary supporter.
On our side, we are currently selecting five trainers (one per lab). Designated as Digital Champions, these trainers will facilitate various digital literacy programs in our labs. One of the primary programs will be the Introduction to Computer Basics, where youth will learn about computer fundamentals, the use of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and how to create and correctly use an email account, including essential security and password management practices.
“Using our Train-the-Trainer winning formula, we’ll be able to launch an initiative capable of reaching an increasing number of young beneficiaries in the coming months and years,” says Mohamed Dumbuya, our Country Manager in Sierra Leone. “The Train-the-Trainer sessions started in January, ensuring we are ready to kick off the program with the youth from February,” he concludes.
We are thrilled about this collaboration with Don Bosco and the positive impact it will have on empowering the youth with essential digital skills, fostering innovation, and enhancing opportunities for economic and social development in Sierra Leone.
