From Casablanca to Slovenia: The ASTROMINDS team’s journey to the World Robot Open Championship 2025
In Casablanca, a group of passionate young students at Ibn Mandour High School embarked on a remarkable journey that would transform their lives and ignite their dreams. The ASTROMINDS team—this is their name—is not just about robotics or competitions; it is a great example of how access to quality STEM education, mentorship, and cutting-edge resources can unlock potential and inspire innovation.
Their journey began in late 2024 when the ASTROMINDS team was introduced to our STEM lab, created in collaboration with STMicroelectronics Morocco (read their incredible story here). This space, equipped with repurposed laptops, STM32 kits, and advanced prototyping tools, became the team’s creative playground—a place where curiosity met opportunity.
More than just technology, the lab offered expert mentorship from ST’s engineers and educators who guided the students through complex challenges and encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. This nurturing environment empowered the students to transform abstract ideas into tangible innovations, fostering resilience and confidence along the way.
What started as a local robotics initiative soon blossomed into a journey of discovery and growth. The ASTROMINDS team leveraged resources and support to design and build a sophisticated robot showcasing technical excellence, creativity, and collaboration.

While the ASTROMINDS team’s success earned them the honor of representing Morocco on the global stage at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Open Championship 2025 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, their true achievement lies in the journey itself.
