Imagine a community where senior citizens confidently use tablets to connect with loved ones, manage their health, shop online, and explore new hobbies, all while staying safe from digital threats. This vision is becoming a reality in Cabuyao, Laguna (Philippines), thanks to our Tablet for Senior course, within our Digital Unify initiative.
Since its launch on August 27, the Tablet for Seniors (T4S) program has been empowering elderly participants through a hands-on 12-hour course designed to bridge the digital divide. With the support of Mr. Michael Camba, Officer in-charge of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in Cabuyao, the initiative kicked off with 18 senior learners ready to embrace technology.
The curriculum covers everything from basic tablet use and internet set up to video calling, safe social media practices, online shopping, health resources, and cybersecurity, skills that open the doors to independence and social connection.
By December 10, 14 seniors proudly graduated, their lives enriched by newfound digital confidence. Lolo Wilfredo Tolentino, 70, reflected, “I learned so much from this course; from staying active on social media to making online payments. Most importantly, I now know how to use my devices safely and securely.”
Meanwhile, 74-year-old Lola Perseveranda Juarez found joy in discovering TikTok, saying, “It helps with my personal health and mental wellness. Every class was fun and exciting, and I’m proud to have earned a perfect score on the online exam!” 
Elizabeth Deondo, 62, also shared, “The sessions gave me new learnings on using online and video platforms to contact my loved ones, as well as how to use social media for interaction and communication.”

The Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in the Philippines is a local government office that implements laws like the Expanded Senior Citizens Act (RA 9994), serving as a liaison to provide benefits, privileges, and services to senior citizens (aged 60+). They issue OSCA IDs, process applications for DSWD social pensions, provide assistance for deceased seniors (mortuary), issue discount booklets for medicine/groceries/movies, and help with PhilHealth enrollment, ensuring the elderly’s rights are recognized and that they can participate in community life.
