Between city and countryside: how digital technology blurs the lines
In the heart of Senegal, the distance between urban and rural areas isn’t just measured in kilometers; it’s measured in opportunity, access to knowledge, and familiarity with the tools of the present. In Dakar, a child can switch on a computer as easily as drinking a glass of water. Just a few kilometers away, in the same country, there are children who have never seen a keyboard up close.
Ndeye Rama Ndiaye teaches digital literacy in the rural areas of the country and witnesses this imbalance every day. “Children in cities learn quickly and easily. Those in the countryside struggle more, not because they lack intelligence, but because they lack opportunities.”
Technology, however, can become a bridge. A lifeline stretched between two worlds that once seemed unable to connect. Thanks to our training programs, digital tools and education have finally reached even the most remote villages. Ndeye Rama was one of the first instructors to take on this challenge, and today she sees the impact: children accessing the internet, writing texts, communicating with the outside world, and rediscovering the value of education.
One particularly valuable resource in this journey has been the ability to learn through programs in local languages, making comprehension easier and bringing digital learning closer to everyday life. Because innovation can amplify local culture, without distorting it.
