A meaningful journey with Digital Unify Malaysia
The Digital Unify Malaysia Team recently had the privilege of conducting an “Introduction to Computer Basics” class for 8 students in a very rural area, Ladang Ban Heng Tamil Primary School — an experience that left a lasting impact on all of them.
The school was about 55 km from the ST office, requiring our volunteers to drive for around 1.5 hours along bumpy palm oil estate roads. Although the journey was long, it became one of their most meaningful experiences, offering a clear reminder of how limited access to technology still is in some communities.
What moved them most was how little the students had been exposed to digital devices, including laptops. The school was small, with very small classes and many students from low-income families. When asked why they continued teaching just eight students, the teachers simply replied: because they matter.
They deserve attention, support, and the opportunity to learn, just like everyone else.
Over the course of three months, our volunteers Nazreen, Anissuraya, Izzulhakim, Norazah, and Ramlah travelled to the school every week to deliver the sessions. By the end of the program, they realized something important: these were the groups they needed to focus on even more. The bond they built, the memories they shared, the knowledge they exchanged, and even the meals they enjoyed together became truly meaningful to them.
This experience changed them. It reminded them that small efforts can make a big difference, especially in communities that are often overlooked. Wherever they go, they will continue to share this story — because it is not just about teaching technology, but about bringing hope, connection, and opportunity to those who need it most.
