A nurse, a computer, and a new life
In Ndiakhou, a small regional health center in the Thiès region, more than 70 km east of Dakar, 27-year-old nurse Rokhaya Sarr carries out her work with dedication and passion. Every day, she fights to provide better care for her community. Yet one challenge kept holding her back: digital skills.
“Before, I had no foundation. Using a computer felt like trying to climb a mountain whose summit I could never reach,” she recalls. In today’s world, where technology touches every profession, this lack of knowledge was becoming a real handicap, even in healthcare.
Then came the Introduction to Computer Basics (ICB) training. It was a turning point. Rokhaya discovered that with a keyboard and a screen, her work became lighter and more efficient: managing medicines, drafting reports, researching new treatments, even placing supply orders for the health center. Suddenly, the computer was no longer a barrier, it had become her ally.
“Today, I can truly say that my daily life has changed. I complete my tasks more easily, I save time, and I feel connected to the world,” she shares with a smile.
This transformation did more than improve her work; it gave her a new vision. Rokhaya now dreams of raising awareness among young people in her community about the importance of digital skills:
“I want them to understand that in this globalized world, with AI and emerging technologies, computing has become indispensable.”
Rokhaya is living proof that it is never too late to learn and reinvent yourself. With determination and the support of the Foundation’s ICB program, she has found new momentum, turning the computer into a tool for health, progress, and hope.
