Partnership with ITU
The partnership between ST Foundation and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) continued to expand its impact in Senegal throughout 2023 and 2024, empowering young people—especially girls—with essential digital skills.
The collaboration was first launched in November 2023, with the support of the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) during its initial phase. Four schools in rural and peri-urban areas were selected to host the project. Over 400 students took part in the Introduction to Computer Basics (ICB) course, while 80 top-performing female students participated in a specialized coding program using VittaScience starter kits. This first phase successfully introduced digital literacy and coding to underserved communities and encouraged girls to explore STEM disciplines.
In 2024, the partnership with ITU entered a consolidation phase. The program was expanded to new locations and continued to focus on gender equality and youth empowerment. A group of 80 young women aged 14–24 followed a hybrid course combining digital skills, leadership, and self-confidence training. The initiative fostered mentorship and peer learning, inspiring participants to become digital role models within their communities.
Ongoing monitoring and follow-up activities have helped ensure sustainability and are paving the way for further expansion in 2025.
