Excitement filled the air at Sri Jamil School in rural Muar as the STM32 Coding Program its debut. Located just 20 km from ST Muar, this public school became the launchpad for a groundbreaking initiative aimed at equipping students with essential coding skills. The program’s first session, led by dedicated volunteers who had completed the STM32 Train-the-Trainer program in July, was met with enthusiasm and curiosity.
The rapid transition and growing demand for technology education have underscored the need for such initiatives. The STM32 Coding Program has risen to the occasion, meeting local educational needs with perfect timing. The Muar Education Department, recognizing the program’s potential, has given its full support.
Students eagerly participated in a variety of activities integrated into the coding classes, including testing soil humidity using a humidity sensor. These hands-on experiences allowed them to connect simulations with real-life applications, fostering basic logical programming skills. The 20-hour module, facilitated by ST volunteers working for our Foundation, ensured a smooth and engaging learning experience using the STM32 starter kit and Nucleo board.
The program concluded with a certificate ceremony, celebrating the students’ achievements and newfound skills. Building on this success, further discussions with the Muar Education Department have paved the way for expanding the program. This expansion aims to address the educational gap and bridge the digital divide within the ST Muar vicinity, bringing the benefits of coding education to even more students.
“I attended the STM32 Train-the-Trainer Program, and I found the facilities to be excellent, with all necessary equipment functioning perfectly. The four-day training was comprehensive and knowledge-rich, thanks to the guidance of well-known and expert instructors. I conducted a class on STM32 coding at Sri Jamil School and was delighted to see the excitement of each child eager to learn about coding. “I attended the “Train the Trainers” STM32 starter kit coding course in July 2024. Together with other ST plant volunteers, we completed the training online and hands-on with the STM32 starter kit. With my test programming background from my work experience, I quickly picked up the visual block code on Vitta Science with the hardware. Although the trainer was far away in India, through discussions among the trainer and team members in the same room, we were able to help each other solve problems. With the knowledge I gained, I started the journey to conduct training at Sri Jamil School in their computer lab. The kids showed enthusiasm for the course. We taught them some basic debugging techniques, like using the simulator on Vitta Science to check if the coding was working as programmed. We then connected to the hardware. If the hardware didn’t work, we checked the connections between the sensors and ports. In this way, they were able to trace their mistakes and correct them. Most of them completed the course with excellent collaboration. I believe coding is a valuable investment in their future, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”
