Building digital confidence in France through hands-on learning
During a recent training workshop in France Vincent Cucchiaro – volunteer of AFPP – led our Informatics & Computer Basics (ICB) course for unaccompanied minors supported by Entraides & Solidarités, as part of the Atelier des Projets initiative. The course took place during the participants’ holiday period.
Held during the last week of February, the one-week training used the updated 2025 course version and focused on practical digital skills for study and everyday life, including Word, Excel, email writing, internet use, and cybersecurity.
Although artificial intelligence was briefly introduced, AI tools were not taught in detail. The trainer emphasized the importance of building strong core skills through hands-on practice before relying on generative AI.
Despite their young age and limited prior computer experience, participants learned quickly. Additional short typing exercises were introduced after the Word sessions to improve keyboard speed and accuracy.
The students showed strong engagement. Two of them recorded an audio message to acknowledge their regular attendance and good results. They highlighted the program’s dynamic approach and its positive impact on their confidence and preparation for future studies and integration.
