Empowering educators for a better future: Kanchan’s experience in India
Kanchan is a 35 year-old school teacher from India. In her life, she faced many challenges in adapting to modern educational demands due to her limited familiarity with computers and struggles with data management. Despite her dedication to teaching, managing student records and academic data efficiently became a daunting task, impacting her productivity and confidence.
Seeking a solution, Kanchan enrolled in our “Basic IT” training, delivered in cooperation with NIIT Foundation, not being able to find an affordable training near her. This marked a turning point in her journey as she gained essential IT skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and data management tools. Guided by Nikki Sharma, her dedicated mentor and supported by her peers, Kanchan gradually overcame her technological fears. Her newfound skills not only enhanced her ability to manage records effectively but also transformed her teaching methodology, making her lessons more engaging for students.
We had a chance to meet Nikki Sharma – and asked her a few questions about the class that Kanchan was attending.
What kind of class did you have?
Nikki Sharma: During this program, I had the privilege of introducing computer courses to our students. Among them, many are teachers, with responsibilities towards other students.
What was the final reaction of your students?
Nikki Sharma: I have observed remarkable changes in the participants’ behavior after completing the courses. They have seamlessly integrated computer skills into their daily lives, demonstrating responsible use of technology, proficiency in information retrieval, and improved problem-solving abilities. Beyond technical skills, the program has also enabled students to master essential tasks like email writing and navigating social media effectively, utilizing key tools and resources.
Did you teach them about security as well?
Nikki Sharma: Yes, the program prioritizes safe and secure learning by educating students on how to protect themselves against online threats, so common these days.
A final remark?
Nikki Sharma: In essence, my collaboration with the ST Foundation has been a personal transformative experience. It has enriched our students’ educational journeys and significantly enhanced their future prospects by equipping them with essential computer skills, I am honored to be part of this transformation.
