Empowering special needs kids through technology in India
In Ghaziabad, a city in Uttar Pradesh, India, a successful collaboration with Sri Aurobindo Society has transformed education for children with special educational needs. From May to July 2025, eleven young learners embarked on different sessions under the Tablet for Kids (T4K) program where technology became a gateway to creativity, confidence, and essential life skills.
Our T4K program was more than just providing tablets; it reimagined learning by integrating digital tools with real-world themes. Children worked in pairs, rotating partners to foster cooperation and peer learning. They began as reporters, capturing photos and creating digital collages, which sparked creativity and communication. As artists, they explored digital drawing apps, expressing themselves and building pride in their work. Planning birthday parties introduced them to writing and organizational skills through word processing tools.
The journey continued with detective and traveller roles, where children researched the Taj Mahal, navigated maps, and simulated travel bookings, mixing curiosity with practical digital skills. Acting as tour guides, they practiced language translation and communication, while as traders, they managed simple spreadsheets, learning numeracy and budgeting. The final session immersed them in exploring the human body using interactive 3D anatomy apps, deepening their understanding of science and technology.
The program concluded with a heartfelt certificate distribution ceremony at the Centre for Excellence, attended by Dr. Simmi Mahajan, Chief Program Officer of Sri Aurobindo Society, and Kamal Deep Jain, our Country Manager in India. The celebration was a tribute to the children’s growth in confidence, creativity, and independence.
