From Castelletto to community impact: Federica’s story and the power of teamwork

Federica, an ST employee based in Castelletto, Italy, has been passionate about volunteering since she was 12. Since joining the ST volunteer program in 2024, she has been actively engaged in the Milan area, working alongside a remarkable team of colleagues who share her commitment to social impact.

What motivated you to sign up as an ST volunteer?

I’m genuinely proud to be part of a company that not only encourages but empowers its employees to dedicate time and energy to volunteering. This unique opportunity allows us to blend our professional skills with personal passion, creating meaningful contributions to social causes that make my work feel more meaningful and impactful beyond the usual business goals.

Where was your most recent training course delivered?
The latest course took place at the ASCS headquarters in Milan (Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo), an organization dedicated to supporting migrants and refugees in Italy by providing assistance and facilitating their social integration. This course was specifically designed for a group of women from Peru who were eager to acquire practical computer skills to aid their integration into Italian society. ST generously provided the necessary computers and equipment for the sessions.

I was honored to collaborate with fellow volunteers—Renato Castellan, Paolo Comite, Lavinia Fabrello, Laura Sacrari, Sara Quaini, Stefano Ravaglia, Ester Graziani, Luana Musca, Laura Bonini, Rita Croci, and Lucia Zullino—as we supported the learners throughout the course together.

How do you think this course will impact on the beneficiaries?
The beneficiaries gained essential digital skills that boost their independence in everyday life and improve their chances of finding employment. Considering the very few opportunities they have, this empowerment is vital for their social integration and self-confidence, helping them navigate new challenges with greater ease.

Was this your first experience delivering a digital course?
No, I’ve contributed to three other courses organized by ST Foundation. Each experience reinforces my belief in the power of these initiatives to connect corporate expertise with community needs. The generosity of volunteers sharing their knowledge creates a ripple effect of positive change for both learners and volunteers alike.

What is the most valuable takeaway from your volunteering experience?
Working closely with vulnerable people has been a humbling and enriching experience. It’s a powerful reminder that behind every face lies a universal story of hope and resilience. I’m proud to be part of a company whose people step beyond their comfort zones to make a real difference. Collaborating with colleagues in this setting has deepened our bonds and fostered true teamwork and solidarity.

Looking ahead, how do you see your role as a volunteer evolving within ST?
I’m eager to expand my volunteer role by developing new courses and supporting more social projects. Volunteering has become a vital part of my life, offering a powerful way to give back while growing personally and professionally. I look forward to inspiring more colleagues to join us in creating a lasting impact within our community.
