Koshal, a story of digital Freedom
On April 17, 2022, Koshal faced a challenging turning point when he was arrested and detained in Moradabad Jail (Uttar Pradesh, India) following a street altercation. At just one step away from university, his future seemed uncertain, and the weight of remorse and isolation could have easily overshadowed his dreams. Yet, even in this difficult moment, Koshal’s passion for learning and personal growth remained alive.
Less than a year into his detention, Koshal discovered a new opportunity—a computer course offered through a collaboration between us and the India Vision Foundation, founded by Kiran Bedi, India’s first female Police Officer. This program allowed him to channel his energy into learning and self-improvement, and to rebuild his confidence and connection with society.
Koshal’s dedication quickly became evident. During a bail hearing, when asked if he knew how to use a computer, he confidently demonstrated his skills. Impressed, the prison officers selected him to work in the digital office, marking a new chapter in his journey.
Since then, Koshal has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm and commitment, mastering a range of software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Paint, Photoshop, CorelDraw, and Gmail, in both Hindi and English.
His growth and evolution are also evident in the words of his instructor: “Koshal successfully completed the basic course, but his thirst for knowledge never faded, showing great dedication and passion.”
His story is a powerful example of how education and support can transform lives, inspire hope, and open doors to new possibilities.

India Vision Foundation
India Vision Foundation was established in 1994, when the first female Police Officer of India, Dr Kiran Bedi was conferred with the Ramon Magsaysay Award (equivalent to Asia’s Nobel Prize) for forging ‘positive relationships’ between people and the police through creative leadership during her tenure as Inspector General of Tihar Prison, Asia’s largest prison. The Foundation seeks to carry forward its service in all those areas which were the basis of the award; namely Police and Prison Reforms; Women Empowerment.
