We recently completed the first batch of the coding program in partnership with the Calamba Integrated National High School, with 36 enthusiastic students successfully finishing the course.
This 20-hours program introduces students to the basics of coding using the STM32 starter kits. The curriculum covers a range of essential topics, including:
- STM32 NUCLEO-L476RG board: understanding the hardware and its capabilities
- Different types of ports: learning about various ports and their functions
- VittaScience programming interface: hands-on activities to reinforce learning using a user-friendly interface to simplify coding
- Firmware installation: installing and managing firmware for the STM32 boards
- Sensors & actuators: integrating sensors and actuators for interactive projects
The culmination of the course saw students presenting their innovative projects, showcasing the knowledge and skills they acquired. The students were divided into five groups, each presenting a unique project:
Group 1 – Wi-light: an automated household window lighting control device utilizing temperature and light
Group 2 – Hydro intelliguard: an intelligent water management system and a mechanical waste collector
Group 3 – Mobile intelligent node integrated for optimized neatness (MINION): a creative and interactive robotic project promoting proper waste disposal
Group 4 – Weather adaptive self-retracting clothing rack and sun exposure optimization with alert system: a system that adapts to changing weather conditions bringing benefit to elderly and working individuals
Group 5 – Automated plant thirst system: an automated system for efficient plant care
Some students shared their positive experiences, highlighting the course’s impact on their ability to create smart and creative projects. They had fun and enjoyed every session, in particular the VittaScience Programming interface, which they found beneficial and user-friendly, allowing for greater creativity in project conceptualization.
Looking ahead, and in line with our Train-the-Trainer approach, we plan to train the teachers at Calamba Integrated National High School to further expand the sessions to more students. The goal is to integrate this coding course into the school curriculum, reaching even more young minds in the next academic years.
