ST Foundation 2024: key milestones in bridging the digital divide
In 2024, marking our 23rd year of activity, we made remarkable strides in advancing digital inclusion worldwide, empowering over 139,000 new learners and expanding our reach to 15 countries. This year, we focused on updating educational content, strengthening strategic partnerships, and delivering tailored digital literacy programs to vulnerable and underserved communities. Let’s take a closer look at five of our most significant milestones.
- Revamping and expanding core courses
We made significant updates to our flagship courses, including a comprehensive revision of the coding curriculum that now integrates hands-on learning with tools such as the VittaScience Starter Kit.
Prof Christian Bernareggi inaugurates the ICVBI initiative in Pakistan
The Introduction to Computer Basics (ICB) course was refreshed to align with modern technologies including Windows 11 and Microsoft Office, and it now incorporates foundational knowledge about Artificial Intelligence.
An updated course designed for visually impaired learners (ICB4VI) was introduced in Pakistan, enabling digital empowerment for this underserved community.
- Strategic collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
Building on the partnership initiated in 2023, 2024 saw the successful integration of Senegal and Sierra Leone into the ITU’s Digital Transformation Centers (DTC) network. This collaboration facilitated the “training of trainers” and “digital skills” programs reaching thousands, including specialized courses for visually impaired individuals and leadership programs for young women.
- Expanding digital literacy for seniors and youth
Our volunteers from Morocco
The Tablet for Seniors (T4S) course scaled up in Italy, India, and was notably launched in Singapore, addressing the digital divide among older adults by combining online and in-person training. Meanwhile, Morocco’s summer camps reached over 12,700 disadvantaged youth across 17 cities, providing free, comprehensive digital education and hands-on experience with essential software tools.
- Strengthening impact in India and beyond
India’s program grew with 57 Digital Unify Labs and 17 NGO partnerships, reaching nearly 20,000 beneficiaries. Key initiatives included the “T4K on Wheels” mobile learning project for underprivileged children and the launch of coding workshops with regional trainers. Additionally, the ICB4VI course was rolled out to support visually impaired young women.
- Digital equipment donations and new DU Labs in France and Italy
Our Tablet for Kids on Wheels initiative in India
Nearly 1,000 digital devices were donated across France to support education and social inclusion. Six new partnerships enabled the launch of additional Digital Unify Labs, including specialized programs for students with disabilities. In Italy, STEM and coding workshops were enriched with new educational kits and masterclasses, reaching hundreds of students and teachers, and promoting gender equality in tech careers.
